Cyanotypes by Daniel Huffman

$80.00

The cyanotype process is a sort of photography where paper is coated in a material that changes color when exposed to the sun. The beautiful blue hue on these prints is a byproduct of the chemistry involved but it also give these images a deep and rich color informed by water and sunlight, not unlike the mountains themselves.

Printed on Japanese kozo paper from the Awagami factory in Japan. The natural paper has small variations in the plant material, so the paper isn't crisply uniform, but has an organic look. There will be small variations in the color throughout, and each one turns out a slightly different shade of blue. The process also causes it to wrinkle and wave in a charming way that produces a rustic look that reminds you that this was the result of a manual printing process involving water and sunlight.
